The Manila Oriental Market remains true to its DNA in serving the Asian population, especially those who still have nascent roots in their home countries.

There's live fish in tanks, on ice, fresh meat still being cut up to specs or custom desires, lots of packaged stuff in Chinese characters, aisles upon aisles of imported canned food and labels you won't find in any ordinary stateside market.

And the crowd is as Asian as ever, you can hear all kinds of languages all over the place, it's cacophonous in there, like an orchestra tuning up before a performance, but it's music to my ears as it embodies an authenticity you can't fake.

Yep, and there's the shuffling crowd overstuffed in limited space all driving their carts with reckless abandon, no signal lights or any hint of direction they're going. Sound familiar?

Nonetheless, all those are positives, unique experiences where aesthetics take a back seat to functionality, no space wasted, stuff to the rafters as you shop with music wailing a bit too loud on blown speakers.

This place is diversity on steroids and I love it.

Very reasonably priced Asian supermarket — perfect for any and all Chinese and Filipino cooking needs. Southeast Asian (but lesser extent Thai) and Latino groceries available.

Produce — while fresh — sometime require some digging to avoid the over-ripe items. Exotic vegetables, fruits and herbs.

Wide selection of fresh fish kept on ice make for a visual treat. Well-stocked butcher.

Asian snacks, condiments and sauces abound.

PROS: lots of variety, parking lot
CONS: too much merchandise causes getting stuck waiting for room to move because placement of products in the middle of an aisle between the back wall refrigerator section and end shelves make moving with a shopping cart too hard if there is just one person in the aisle. actually all the aisles are too cramped. I won't go back because it is too confined in case covid cases rise. prices are on the high side.

They obligate you to leave you bags and all your belongings in a place on the floor with no security at all. Anyone can have access to your stuff and steal it. I’m pretty sure they won’t be held accountable if something that belongs to you goes missing. Never coming back here

Lots of vegetables for Asian cooking. My Chinese wife likes to shop here. One can often find a vegetable or fruit that they got a large shipment of at a bargain price. My wife loves a bargain. Winning, winning, winning. Sound like anyone we all know (unfortunately)?
It's not spanking new and clean like H Market, but it provides the vittles.
They have fish and meat also, of course.
