I had the weirdest experience at the visitor center. I stopped in to find out about the name of "Ney Springs" because I couldn't recall.
Anyway, when I went in, the lady working was talking with a man... Maybe it was flirtatious. She was offering to show him around town. I browsed the brochures while they talked. Finally, she turned her attention towards me and said, "Hi, how are you today?"
I turned and approached the counter, "I'm fine. I wondered if you could help me, I cannot remember the name of a waterfall I hiked to last year, I'd like to visit again..." And I gave her a brief description. Her face was blank, so I concluded, "maybe you have no idea what I'm talking about..." (Smiling!)
Instead of answering me at all, she said, pertly, as if I'd interrupted them, "Well, I'm actually still helping this man... and you need to sign the guest book."
Completely taken aback, because I'd taken her greeting to me to be an invitation to talk to her,
I said, "why do I have to sign it?"
"Well, so we know how much staff we need!"
She abruptly turns back to the man and they resume their private conversation.
I slowly signed the guestbook... Looked at her again , hoping she might find it within her to consider my question. She didn't look at me. Slowly, I turned and very slowly I walked out. I kept thinking she'd say, "oh ma'am... About that waterfall...." But she didn't address another word too me.
I was completely flummoxed. Still can't figure out what I did to offend this lady or why she couldn't quickly answer my question. Even if she didn't know the waterfall, she should have said so... Why should I stand around and wait while she flirts? Just to find out she doesn't know. It's still a mystery to me, if she knew where I meant or not!
So I had to ask Google, which told me the name of the waterfall instantly. I wish I hadn't signed the guestbook and normally I want little places in little towns to stay open.... But in this case. Close it up. Useless.
Can't even give a quick answer to a simple question.

October 2022 Closed on Sunday afternoon when we first arrived. Came back Monday 10AM - Open. The lady (Morgan) was pleasant, most friendly and helpful. We found some bike routes that we otherwise would have known about. Lots of informational booklets, brochures, maps, etc.
Definitely worth a look-see and will enhance your visit to the Mt Shasta area and North California region.

Quintessential Chamber Cabin located near the heart of downtown. Before making your way through the tree lined Boulevard, swing by, grab a map, purchase some local souvenirs for the family/friends who didn't make the trip or a piece to remind you of your time here. Always helpful, community based and driven, you're sure to hear all of the locals favorite places if you stop in!
