The Headwaters of the Sacramento River in Mount Shasta City is a breathtaking spot that’s teeming with life and energy! This natural spring, known for being a primary source of fresh water, draws in visitors from all over, eager to refill their containers with its pure, crystal-clear water. It’s not just about the water, though—the entire area feels like a hidden gem. The park’s small campground offers stunning, panoramic views, making it a perfect escape into nature. Majestic pines tower over the water as it seemingly “springs to life,” creating a peaceful yet invigorating atmosphere. Whether you’re there for the water or the scenery, it’s an unforgettable experience for nature lovers!

The most stunning park I’ve ever seen.

There are quite a few trails across and along the stream. A huge grass yard to walk barefoot. Drum circles on Sundays.
All you can eat blackberries in late summer — Labor Day is peak ripeness.
Quite a happening watering hole too. I must have drank 50 gallons of water from the mountain spring here by now, unfiltered, no issues.

If you ever need a place to just stop and reboot this would be the place. Great accessible spring water straight from the source. A place to just unwind and also a great place to bring the kids, Great playground, basketball court.

Fantastic is only the beginning of this gem. Along with picnic tables, bar-b-ques, a playground & forested trails near the creek are the Headwaters of the Sacramento River. These blessed waters taste as if from Heaven. Many come & sing to the waters also offering flowers & spices to honor them. Walk softly, have a taste & cool your feet in the Sacred Headwaters & take a nap or have a meal in this beautiful park.

This is an incredible local treasure but I stress the word local - because it should be treated with care for just that reason. The park has a playground, picnic tables, gazebo, large grassy field, various buildings dedicated to senior meals and local community activities. It also holds a spring that is one of the headwaters of the Sacramento River.

For whatever reason you come here, please respect the fact this a community treasure created and maintained by the local community. Please don't leave trash, destroy native habitat (such as the native plants growing around the spring), or make this an unsafe area for family by doing drugs or smoking cigarettes.

This is a great place to enjoy time alone or with family and friends.

There is parking and a bathroom.

Again, respect this wonderful community resource. Don't leave trash. Respect the energy, work, and funding it takes to maintain such a wonderful place where people can relax, recharge, connect, and play together.

9-17-21 Our tour took us to Mt. Shasta City Park home of the headwaters of the Sacramento River amazing to see so much water in a never ending cascade of movement. I brought a jug so I could take some with me and boy is it 🥶 🧊 cold. We hiked the area and discovered a tree or should I say two different trees that have grown TOGETHER ❤. Check out the photos it's true. Nice hiking trails not sure about bathrooms.
Blessings, John
