We drove 20 miles to dine at J Hicks On The Square because we heard they were using Beef Tallow in one of their friers.

We ordered a couple drinks from the bar and we have 2 Thumbs up for the Hick's Breeze. I watched them use high brand products (pineapple juice and cranberry juice) so it was no surprise that this tasted good, and was effective.

For dinner, we had battered fried fish (in Beef Tallow) with fries. It was delicious. Their homemade seafood sauce was a surprise hit. Fish was cooked perfectly and a nice size filet. Fry taste was very clean. No 'beef taste'--just clean and tasty.

For dessert, the Hubs got the Girl Scout Cookie Mason Jar Delight, and I got the Hot Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich. Both were delicious.

This restaurant is a mom-and-pop local spot that is clearly a favorite with regulars popping in (think, "Hey Norm!"). Nothing fancy. Some of the booth seats are a little tired. Bathroom was super clean. Servers were friendly, gracious and efficient.

We'll definitely be back.

Food is great atmosphere is great and the service is typically new but good! The reason for less than five stars is the ridiculous service charge for using a card. See attached for reference. I totally understand 3.5% for small businesses fees using a card but 20% it’s a bit ridiculous. Beer is $1 more if using a card.

Everything here is really excellent. The kitchen may have a bit of a wait if they are busy, but I promise it's worth it. This place has a really great selection of brews and a wonderful attentive staff ready to help you discover your new favorite beer.

First time to J. Hicks was a blast!

I am up from Tennessee visiting in laws and swing by here and loved it! It was Wednesday night, they have trivia night going, and it was burger night!

I got the breakfast burger and it was amazing! We split the chicken tenders for an appetizer because our waitress said it is breaded in Frosted Flakes, 10/10!

Our waitress Kayla was super kind and welcoming, she made the experience super warm and kind.

I will be returning on my next trip, I wish I had a place like this in my hometown.

Everything was clean. Service was good. The food was ok. Nothing wrong with it at all. Nothing spectacular, though, either. Perfectly fine. The front of the restaurant was opened up to let the breeze and fresh air in. That was lovely.

This is my go to in all of Mercer County. The environment is warm and inviting, the service is on point and engaging, and the the food is scrumptious and hearty. I love the variety of beers on tap with most being craft. The sauces for the wings and tenders are innovative and delicious. Last but not least, the prices are very reasonable. Amazing fish dinner one of the best I’ve had. The fries are hand cut like carnival fries. Buffalo chicken wrap and chicken. Bacon ranch wraps were awesome. Live music on Saturday. Starting at 7 PM was very entertaining. It was not too loud. It was not too low. It was the perfect volume. I also found out Thursday night is jazz night and Wednesday night is trivia night starting at 7 PM and the kids would enjoy trivia on Wednesday.
I highly recommend the calamari as an appetizer. It was perfectly cooked, and the breading was very light and crispy and cooked to perfection.
I very much so enjoyed this atmosphere

I went here with my sister because she wanted fried green tomatoes and we found out they were a seasonal dish, ha ha. I had the spinach dip appetizer and she ended up getting the fried pickles.

The spinach dip was *really* good - I'm used to the spinach and artichoke dip over at Applebee's, which is good, but this was AMAZING. Seriously baffled me how some chips and dip could make me scrape the bowl clean. The chips were perfectly salted, and I know I sound ridiculous, but they had some kid of special salt or something that was SO good. The dip was creamy and cheesy and DELICIOUS. Can't recommend enough.

The fried pickles came in spears rather than chips. They were "good, but very hot." Maybe let them cool down before trying them.

The staff was so nice and friendly. We got there at opening time, so there was no one else there and we chatted a bit. They were apologetic to my sister who was very sad about the fried green tomatoes, ha.

I would definitely come here again, even with the drive from Greenville. Great experience.
