Great spot that feels straight out of the 1920 / 1930s featuring pastries, coffee, and pour overs.

Service was quick and friendly, and everything i was delicious. Really liked the wide varieties of coffee they had on offer!

Finally got to get a coffee from this location. They have strange hours compared to their other downtown location. The quality is just a good though. This location is a bit smaller with a few tables right by the door so it gets cold really. And not many places to charge so not good for work. The spicy avena latte should be an award winning drink though.

Elevated coffee experience in a classy well run shop. Batch brew was the seasonal Celebration coffee, which was astonishingly good. Lots of beans to buy and merch to wear, plus gear for brewing. Excellent shop.

Intelligentsia never misses when it comes to a solid cup of coffee. Stopped by grabbed a latte ($6) and a ham & cheese croissant ($5), both absolutely hit the spot. The espresso was smooth, rich, and had that perfect balance—no burnt or bitter aftertaste like some places. The croissant was flaky and buttery, not just an afterthought. The vibe here is sleek but welcoming, perfect for getting some work done or just people-watching. Service was fast and friendly, even during the morning rush. Easily one of the best coffee spots in the Loop!

Come for the history and ambiance (of the Monadnock building) but not for an outstanding pourover.

Visited the morning of MLK Day 2025. Was pretty quiet with only a few other customers sitting in the cafe and a few people stopping in for to-go orders. Ordered two pourover coffees. Definitely not the best pourover option in the city but decent. Intelligentsia generally does good espresso based coffees, again, not the best in the city but above average and certainly better than the large, omnipresent chains.

The ambiance of this location steals the show. Especially if you're at all interested in architecture, the history of Chicago, or the history of modern skyscrapers.

About a half-dozen beans we're on offer for pourover. Ranging in price from $6-$15.

An excellent place to have a great brewed coffee with delicious pastries. Very welcoming baristas and overall pleasant ambiance.
I liked my cortado with proper ratio for milk and espresso.

Will come again for the coffee and the pleasant place.

I had the Avena Latte. It is made with oat milk and organic turbinado sugar simple syrup spiced with ginger, cinnamon, vanilla, and orange peel. It tasted delicious. Service was great. Price was close to $7 (including taxes).

I just love Intelligentsia coffee.
The first one I went to was on Clark St Chicago, maybe 20 years ago. 10 years after that went to Intelligentsia on Abbott-Kinney Ave in Venice Beach, CA. 🙂 I’m hitting them all. This location is smaller, but it can’t help it, the building’s 100 yrs older
