As a horror fan with a happy two days off, this was a fun road trip. Dawn of the Dead was filmed here in 1977, and though not many of the original features are visible, it was fun to see it anyway.
Unfortunately, as a mall in our current age, it shows its signs of the times. There are certainly more open shops than the Exton Square or Berkshire Malls back home, but you can tell that death is on the doorstep. (And not in the fun Romero way).
The Living Dead museum/store was closed when I got there (that was my fault for not going on a weekend). But from what I could see through the gate, inside looked amazing.
Inside the mall has plenty of photo opportunities from the old film, but most of them are covered by some remodel of a few years ago. The fountain, bridge, and clocktower have been removed, but you can see where the tower used to be in the food court.
Business outside the mall and around the grounds is really good though! There's a Barnes&Nobel, Red Robin, and Guitar Center all surrounding the main building. The Cinnemax inside is also pretty nice. (It's also where the old store was featured in the movie).
There is a bust of George A Romero on the ground floor in front of the Army recruiter with a dedicated plaque to him and his movie.
Overall, a very cool thing to see if you like movie history...but also a slowly dying Pennsylvanian mall.

This mall has been open since my childhood. It has remained a very nice mall facing challenges as all malls do. It has maintained very good restaurants on its perimeter and has the best/clean movie theater in the region. excellent theater. recently has been bought so hope to see a resurgence of stores.

This mall is not dead! (Unlike my home town mall...) It was decorated for Christmas and Santa was there seeing children! I especially like the Barnes and Noble book store. The smells of Auntie Annie's seemed to be everywhere and added to the fun. Great place to hangout and get lots of shopping done. Plenty of stores for the whole family!

Bathrooms always smell horrible and no kids play area. Toddler "turf" is just a carpeted open space. Watched me and other parents set their kids down to play and they all just tried to leave, because - who wouldnt

The best things at the mall are: food court, arcade, movie theater, and a few pretty good stores. Gloria Jeans coffee is always slammin

Seriously though, what's wrong with the bathrooms? Is there not enough ventilation?

Feels empty. Not all stores are open during regular business hours. Well marked, easy to get around. Clean and brightly lit. Miss the days of a busy mall.

Mall was good today! Not to many people. And there is a new store right next to ms.feilds cookies. Cool place, the clothes are right up my alley. I went in looked around and got 2 shirts. I love to support new business and the dude working there was cute too! I will definitely be returning to see what they put out next.

There's like nothing here anymore. Many of the stores are small business-like selling clothes with screen prints, little odds and ends, etc. It's more like a fleamarket, expo, or craft fair than a mall. A lot of the major retailers that used to be here are gone.

From what I heard, it used to be a great mall. In my opinion, it’s still worth a visit. Monroeville Mall doesn’t have all the other big chains known in big cities, but there are plenty of good stores to take a look at. You can also find in the complex a Cinemark theater.
