Great place to go for cute Alaska gifts especially homeware and jewelry. The store owner/clerks are fantastic and very helpful. I found everything needed for last minute gifts to take to friends. My friends seemed very happy with their gifts. The clerk heard me telling my daughter that my friend loves cats and he appeared with a cat sticker. The owner made my kids day when he gave them lollipops. To make the visit extra special he followed me to my car and secretly gave me two more lollipops which I pulled out for them on the airplane the next day and they were thrilled. It’s a special store and you will absolutely find something special and Alaskan to give as a gift. They also have every price range.

I visited this store today with my elderly mother to look for souvenirs for family out of town. Upon entering I was greeted by the clerk, I looked around, and I didn’t see anything I wanted. When walking out I passed the register and the clerk accusatively said, “You gonna pay for those socks?” Implying that I had shoved something in my pocket and was shoplifting, which I had certainly not. He continued to do so, causing a scene, until I offered to show him what I had in my pockets, jacket, etc. (No socks). He was extremely unprofessional and rude and no customer should have to go through such an experience. As a local I will never return to this store and discourage anyone from doing so. Management should seriously consider this man’s employment.

Sold me a damaged doll for my daughter without saying anything. It was behind the counter, I told them I was interested, they grabbed it, looked at the price tag (which states the seam is damaged), told me the price, I said I’d take it, and they packed it up. I even had them double check the price tag at the register, where they again saw it said torn seam, but didn’t tell me.

Update: owner apologized, educated their employee that did the sale, and refunded me. Real stand up individual. Highly recommend just on that.

After purchasing a mug, I was confronted by a staff member as I left, who suspected me of not paying the item. This was an outrageous and humiliating experience! Despite proving my purchase at the counter, not a single word of apology was offered for the baseless accusation and the sheer embarrassment I endured. This level of rudeness and lack of basic courtesy is unacceptable. I am extremely disappointed and will never set foot in your store again.

One of my favorite locally owned gift shops in AK! As a frequent visitor from the lower 48, I always stop in when I'm there to pick up gifts for everyone back home. I've also ordered online when I can't make the trip, great delivery time and it's always personalized. ❤️

When you need a gift, but you don't want to break the bank. Once in a Blue Moose has multiple locations, but if you're near the Hotel Captain Cook you'll save time walking to the 5th Avenue Mall area. The gifts are mostly inexpensive and many gifts are small for mailing or packing. You'll also find snacks and drinks here if you're in a hurry for a quick lunch.
