Great for wi-fi and a space to work with power outlets accessible from 70% of seats that i can see. Coffee though way too sugary (i got a mocha $6 which is definitely not a black coffee but it was way too much for me. I couldn’t finish it )

Great ambience, good for working from a cafe, lots of spaces to sit.

❤️ Mozzarella tomato hot panini sandwich was very tasty. Loved the pesto, the focaccia bread and everything. Probably the best Mozzarella tomato pesto sandwich I have had

I really enjoy this place and it’s a nice environment to do work in. I love the taro latte and you can get it hot or iced; I’ve gotten the avocado toast a few times and it’s so fresh and wholesome. The club sandwich is great too!

Was my first time here and everything my friend told me about Otto was true — he’s a great guy! He complimented me on my CANADA sweater and was super helpful.

I got their Magic Cup of Health and the Lox Plate from their specials menu! I was thoroughly satisfied with the food, drinks, and cozy vibes.

If I lived closer I’d be a local. 😉

I have not been in much in the three years that I wrote what I did below but have been in several times in the last month or so (May 2025). The surly food preparer who had exacerbated the main problem appears to have left, but the main issue still remains. I wanted to come in and see if I could upgrade my previous 3-star (average) rating but alas it shall remain.
And, there are two many really good coffee / tea places in Alameda for me to continue doing *average*

The "new" Local is back! Very good selection of house made sandwiches with a salad (or chips) on the side made with store fresh ingredients.
The same physical layout as the old place with upgrade remodel and new furnishings.
Bonus star!...they seem to have attracted a similar eclectic crowd as before.

(Edited to note:) Everything that I wrote above and one month ago remains true. But my enthusiasm for the place has waned . After three separate occurrences over that time I am convinced that once your food and drink is ordered, payed for, and prepared, staff loses interest in whether you actually receive it or not.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I will still go in to have an espresso drink and a pre-prepared pastry because they still seem to be able to draw a good crowd. But if I am really hungry I will have a meal elsewhere before I do.

By far the best coffee shop in Alameda - owned by a local, Otto - he might be the best person you’ll ever meet! Delicious food, generous portions, great coffee. This place is buzzing with locals reading, playing chess or doing cool things on their laptop. Strong wifi and comfortable chairs. I would move in here if I could 🙂 lol Highly, highly recommended.

Look at this wine glass - picture was taken before I took a sip - do you find it as hilarious as I do?

I ordered a veggie everything bagel with salmon added to it. It was very tall and packed with toppings, ate half of it and took the rest home. Delicious!

Service was great and music choice is soothing.
