I had a great experience at HI San Diego. The staff at the reception desk were very friendly and helpful. The desk staff always said hello with a smile every time I passed. The cleaning staff did a very good job and cleaned the room every day. The bed i stayed in was extremely comfortable i slept like a rock for four nights. If you are looking for the San Diego Gas Lamp experience the HI San Diego is right in the middle of it all. I have absolutely zero complaints. I had a fantastic stay and got to meet some really wonderful people.

Amazing place to stay in Mission Beach! Other visitors and staff are very friendly and welcoming. There's some events at the hostel each night, such as trivia, board games, and a BBQ. The curtains for each bed in the group rooms give you privacy. The location is close to the beach, and I didn't need a car while I was here (rented a bike instead). Also, the pancake and eggs station for breakfast was very much appreciated.

It was great as a solo trip, but I would also visit as a group in the future! Looking forward to returning.

This is the best experience I’ve had in a hostel, even including traveling in South America and Europe. The staff are super kind and the place is very clean. It’s small but that gives you a feeling of comfort and like you are home. The staff from the manager to the last volunteer are make sure you’re always taken care of and they have extra things like sandwich bags and things to put your food in which means a lot when traveling. I loved the activities they every day including the Taco Tuesday and BBQ. The bed is really comfy and the duvet is really soft. I also loved that they had a free food box for the people staying there. For me it’s a dream to work here one day!

The best hostel for solo travelers & couples alike!
10/10 experience at ITH backpacker mission beach hostel. I went on my first solo trip as a female traveler in her 20’s & stayed at ITH because of all of the reviews echoing the safety & welcoming environment that it holds. I couldn’t agree more. The hostel was safe, clean, and full of AMAZING people on staff (seriously, Reuben was a huge highlight of my trip!!) I didn’t know what to expect for my first hostel experience and ITH was better than I could have ever hoped/imagined. There are activities to do with the hostel daily, so it’s great to meet new people and make friends. I truly felt like it was my home away from home & I can’t wait to visit again soon. I can’t imagine visiting San Diego and not staying at the ITH backpacker hostel again. I’m so thankful for my experience there & I cannot recommend it enough if you’re looking for a safe, quiet, welcoming environment. Thank you so much to Reuben, Hailey, & Alejandro for being so gracious to me! I will cherish my trip at ITH forever.

Highly recommended!
I had a wonderful stay at the ITH Hostel in Mission Beach. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience super pleasant.
The hostel was very clean, well-organized, and had a relaxed, cozy vibe. The location is absolutely perfect – just steps from the beach and a great base to explore San Diego.
I’d definitely stay here again and can fully recommend it to anyone looking for a friendly, chill place by the ocean. Huge thanks to the whole Team!

I stayed here for just one night but the hostel was great! I was in an all female dorm and had the room to myself which was a nice surprise. I will say it is loud because its right next to the street, but they have earplugs (and if you're a heavy sleeper like me you won't need them, it's not unbearable). The shower rooms are also pretty tiny, but everything is clean and the location is incredible! Mission beach is so fun, and I'll definitely be back.

This was my first time staying at a hostel and I was beyond impressed. The shared areas were really well maintained and had great vibes. Plenty of showers and bathrooms. The room and linens were super comfortable. The service was above and beyond. Not to mention you’re a minute from the beach, if that. I felt very safe and comfortable the entire time. I had a million questions and Ruben was so kind and helpful. 10/10 would recommend and will be coming back.

If you are thinking of staying at this location, just say yes! Book the room and you won't be disappointed. Keep in mind it is a hostel not a 5-star hotel. If you are looking for a place to stay that has a good vibe, great location, and even better price, then this is your spot. Trust me, I'm a solo female traveler and I had a great experience and felt safe the entire time. I was very pleased with the value and so will you.
