A True Hidden Gem in Columbia State Historic Park!

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Columbia Mercantile 1855 today and was delighted to meet the owner. The store is an incredible mix of basic necessities alongside high-end, organic, and locally sourced products—all thoughtfully selected with care. It’s rare to find a place that caters to both practical needs and gourmet tastes so well.

I loved discussing travel stories with the owner, who is as knowledgeable about the history of Columbia State Historic Park as she is about the incredible products she offers. It’s refreshing to see businesses like this flourishing in a historic setting. The prices are also surprisingly reasonable, especially for California, where you’d expect higher prices inside a state park.

From amazing bread and wine to hardware goods and even music accessories (yes, they have violin strings and guitar cords!), this store has everything you could need. The best part? They are open seven days a week, making it incredibly convenient for both locals and tourists.

Whether you’re a local stopping by for essentials or a tourist needing a bottle of water or a snack, Columbia Mercantile 1855 offers a fantastic experience with a thoughtful selection and friendly service. I can’t recommend it enough!

Incredible boutique grocery store with incredible selection of goods. Fresh sourdough, best vegan cheeses ever, delicious spreads, Thai/asian/italian cooking materials.

Reasonable prices too, like a Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s but with the vibe of an 1850s store. You NEED to check this place out if you’re plant-based or vegan. Teresa really has a lovely place here.

Amazing market and general store for tourists and locals alike. Support a business working hard to establish Colombia on the map for decades to come. Stocked with fine good, meats, cheese, flowers and all the kitchen basics too.

So I was having a curry emergency and had to run down to the mercantile to see if they had any broccoli, which they did, but when I got home the curry paste I thought I had, wasn't there! So, I scurried for curry back on down to the mercantile......powder or paste was all I needed and I ended up leaving there with three different varieties of spice/curry/paste to choose from. I was in such a pinch TWICE! and it was really great to just be able to go right down the street to my local store, get such good service and come away with all the things I needed for my curry emergency. But seriously these ladies were so kind to me!

Also, Oh my gosh! you have to try the new scones! There aren't any left right now because I bought them all. You're going to have to put in an order at the mercantile for these things, or just sit around and hope that I haven't come back for the rest of them every single time they are restocked. They are so good, I had two other people try them today and they were both super happy. Some amazing home baker that made them! Mrs. G's Homemade Cookies, you hold the key to my heart. ?

What is there not to LOVE about Columbia Mercantile 1855! It's a wonderful local store (located in Columbia State Historical Park) that has a wide range of everything...including a wonderful owner! The store carries fresh fruit & vegetables, various meat, breads, pasta, spices, flowers, dairy and non-dairy options, alcohol, gluten free, vegan, art and collectibles...they even carry duct tape and fresh baked pies! You'd think the prices would be astronomical...they're NOT! Don't be put off by the wonderful decor, thinking you'll be paying for it, the prices are VERY competitive AND the service comes with a smile! Lastly, they take all methods of payment and will even carry your groceries to your car :o)

This place is amazing. The lady who runs the store was so friendly and has put a lot of time and work into making this place like an old stay grocery store. Stop by and pick up some items to have a picnic in town or go in and grab items to take home and make dinner. There is something for everyone here. This is a place we will be back to visit. What a great experience.

Wonderful and unique store in the heart of Historic Columbia. The owner was such a delight to talk to, and as a local Colombian she knows the community and the history well. The store offers groceries, specialty foods and cold drinks perfect for locals and visitors alike. The shop boasts an original historic storefront and displays many items from the time period. Prices were competitive with a nice selection of snack items, wines, sodas and sarsaparilla, and foods perfect to share with friends or give as gifts. This local business is worth visiting the next time you are in Historia Columbia.

The sweetest shop with an amazing selection of goods that you would have found in the Wild West (pickles in a barrel and sarsaparilla) to current offerings of local deli snacks perfect for a picnic. Stop by this gem if you have a chance! It’s more than a diamond in the rough, Eureka!
