I recently visited Asia Trends with my family after having dim sum at a nearby restaurant , and unfortunately, we had a very unpleasant experience. From the moment we walked in, the store clerk, who I believe is the owner, gave us an unfriendly look. He and an older woman, presumably his wife, followed us around the store, which made us feel uncomfortable.

When my niece was simply looking at a shirt, the owner abruptly asked if she was going to buy it. When she replied that she was just browsing, he snapped, "Don’t touch anything." This blatant rudeness was the tipping point for us. I decided to leave and expressed my frustration, pointing out that there was a reason the store was empty.

It's disheartening to see a business in Chinatown, which has struggled since COVID, treating potential customers this way. This behavior appears to be a pattern, as indicated by other reviews, and it's truly disappointing. I hope no one else has to encounter such hostility. My family and I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this store.

Racist. To their own people ironically. We entered around 1 PM and a lady said they were eating lunch in Cantonese l, so we came back an hour later where a man in the front said they were still eating lunch in mandarin this time. (They switched from Cantonese to mandarin hoping to further deter us.) We told them that’s what they told us an hour ago, and he let us in. Behind us, they let a bunch of kids who weren’t of Chinese descent in without any of the same lunch comment or fuss. The lady who originally helped us then continued to speak to us in mandarin, but luckily a friend knew who to speak mandarin too.

I understand the need to have a diverse crowd in your store to attract tourists in your area, but to deny and show such disrespect to the own blood and heritage is unforgivable.

The most racist encounter I’ve ever experienced in a store. Walked in around 12:30 on Sunday with my bf, someone had just walked out, it’s midday with tons of tourism, the lady claimed they were closed (hours say 12-4). We don’t argue, we continue to wander around Chinatown. As we’re walking passed the store a couple hours later we see plenty of ppl coming out. We decided to go in and look around, she immediately came up to me, leaving the ppl she’s ringing up, and demanded I put things down. I asked her if they were closed earlier, she says they were closed for lunch - again the doors were wide open, someone had just walked out, and they’re only open 4 hours on Sunday. But fine. She continues to ask if I need help and I say no and ask her why she wasn’t ringing up the ppl currently buying stuff. She continues to make sly comments about everyone being a customer, and I say that’s why she should help the people who immediately needed help - those buying things, she was the only employee in the store. Perhaps hire another cashier if you want to follow Black people around all day. She said she didn’t want me to buy any of her stuff, just trying to go back and forth, so focused on me the moment my boyfriend and I came in. Maybe she was looking for an argument, or a chance to weaponize being East Asian. Who knows, I’m only 21, don’t know how old she is, but she was incredibly petty and hostile. Even walked out the store after we left to continue making comments, all I could ask her was “you’re still talking?”

STAY AWAY!! Very rude and unprofessional!

We were hanging around in the neighborhood and we decided to take a look into the store. We ended up leaving the store when the store owner was using F-word and swearing.
Basically both store associates (man and woman) were following us and constantly telling us to not touch anything!! At some point the told us that you CANNOT stand here and there! We got upset of their behavior and we decided to leave but the guy was following us and using f-word! I wish I record this.

Went to San Francisco last month and bought a red silk dress which was so beautiful and the wonderful woman working even helped me choose my size. She urged me to come back and I will next time I’m in the area as I live in Iowa. Wonderful people and she also complimented my Mandarin:)
