I have been to hundreds of cigar shops and lounges. The first time I been there, Mike (RIP) welcomed me, and the feeling of an old friend greeted me that it was now over 15 years ago. His wife runs Cigar Monkey, and the open house feeling of being greated like you're at your best friends house has not been forgotten. I picked up a stick and a drink seat around the lounge, met with some new and old friends, and had a great time as always. Several hours later, I paid for my cigars and drinks and went to my hotel.
I do recommend Cigar Monkey to anyone who wants a great selection but, more importantly, a welcoming fries house that will always have a place for you.
I lived in San Diego and have moved to San Antonio and will always make a trip here.

Prices are good, selection is great! The people there are always helpful. Literally the most helpful cigar shop I have ever been to. On top of that they must have at least 150 different cigars, everyone is picked by the owners. Well priced. Rocky Patels range from $9-$13 for example.

I stopped to get something for my wedding (just to look cool and take pictures for The Gram)

They helped me get what I needed and didn’t try to oversell me something I didn’t need. You can buy anything online expect customer service.

Cigar Monkey is the place to go in Merced for premium quality cigars for a killer price. Many cigars to choose from maduros to few flavored/sweet cigars, all is kept in perfect climate and temperature. Many accessories and must-haves are here. There's also a lounge area to enjoy your stick and the employees are very helpful if you're not sure with what to choose.

The owner, Phil is a really cool dude. Everyone there is laid back and the exact opposite of stuck up. Amazing variety with an amazing amount of knowledge. They have everything thing for the beginner to the Veteran smoker. Smoking accessories as well. New favorite place downtown Merced. I didn't know they have been there for 18 years now. Really cool people.

Mike is super helpful and great at giving you info on cigars you are considering. Great social person. This place is old school, so if you're sensitive and don't have thick social skin, don't be so quick to call them rude. They're actually extremely friendly. One of my favorite spots to buy a cigar. Or several cigars

If you're looking for something cheap and terrible to smoke, then this is not the store for you. You may find something fairly inexpensive, but the Cigar Monkey doesn't carry bad products. Whether it's a cigar or loose leaf tobacco, you can count on it being good; you need only to worry about it being to your tastes.
