In the middle of quiet downtown Monrovia, off the main drag Myrtle, is the unassuming Gene’s Grinders. Simple menu, reasonable prices (get the large) and most important for a deli, quality bread. Without good bread you’re animal cobbling together your sustenance. You’re an upright human and it’s not too much to ask for good bread.

I had the Milanesa ( breaded steak) as the Thursday special. Quality. Do yourself a favor and ask more from your sandwhich.

Recently had the hot roast beef dip. Ordered the small so I could eat the second d half later. Fail! I ate both sitting there outside. Fries were also hot and crispy.

We live locally, but have never tried Gene's Grinders before. I was so happy that we did! Everything is super fresh and tasty. The servings are generous as well, I got 2 meals out of my sandwich. Very friendly as well. We will definitely be back!

I had the pastrami dip with a side of fries. Very good pastrami (tasty, very little fat), fresh white roll, fries served hot.
Surprisingly small store, 6 inside tables with outside covered patio seating.
Rough parking lot, not very pedestrian friendly.

Love this place! Food is great and they're very efficient! I go there often and it's always good. I ordered sandwiches & fries for my office staff and they loved it. We tried the beef dip and the genes special. We sat outside and enjoyed our delicious sandwiches. The bread was so fresh and tasty. It would be delicious hot with butter. The au jus was so hot and flavorful. The French fries were hot and crispy. This place is a hidden treasure. Ten out of ten would totally recommend.

I have enjoyed Gene's grinders for over 20 years. I still visit about once a week. For first timers, you've got to try their Pastrami Grinder. Then do the daily specials or of course gene's special, which is a ham, salami, capacola, turkey, american+provolone cheese topped with lettuce, tomato and olive oil.

Sandwiches are always fresh and tasty. Portions are large and the staff is friendly and helpful. Cold and Hot sandwiches are both on the menu. The Meatball sandwich is great... Try the daily Sandwich Special...you'll be glad you did!

Really enjoyed the 6 inch meatball grinder with extra meat. Exactly what I wanted. Less bread (therefore less gluten) with lots of meat. Really hits the spot. Will definitely come again if I am in the neighborhood.
