I was on a work trip and asked the locals if there was a museum! Thankfully there was. I got to spend my lunch being drawn into the history of Modoc and Northern California in general. However, it wasn't the items or even the train(that immediately caught my eye upon passing) that gave me these lessons. Instead one of the volunteers Lloyd was happy to share stories and historical happenings with me. As a natural chatterbox myself I can say he definitely made the trip worth the walk down the road. I'll certainly be stopping in again and this time with cash in hand to pay the 2 dollar donation.

What a wonderful museum! They have recently added and improved many things. Very fun place to wander and soak up some history.

On a side note Jan was such a terrific hostess! Our whole family felt very welcomed and informed.

Don't forget to bring cash. You will need it for admittance. Machine fees have become too costly.

It's much different than the original museum across the street at the park. They didn't move very much of the old things. The new museum is mostly collections of Obsidian arrowheads collected by the long-time residents. Every collection has the family's name who donated the collections. Not much of the original history of how Alturas came to be was in evidence. I did see my Grest Grandmother's sister's photo. She was the first class to graduate Modoc Highschool in 1903.
