I brought a pair of jeans to Self Edge for a repair. They did a great job and got them back to me faster than expected. Staff was very thorough and helpful, explained the process, offered recommendations and detailed the pricing. I don't generally shop in their price range, but when it's time to spend money on something high quality that will last, they'll be my go-to.

Huge store compared to some of the other locations, and of course, they have a great selection! This location in particular carries a lot of leather jackets, from all different brands and of all different leather types (calfskin, suede, horse, and more). Staff is very helpful and nice, they make you feel very welcome to be there

Great products and excellent service. Shout out to Paolo, who was really helpful in listening to my feedback about the two pairs I tried on. When those didn’t work out, he suggested a third pair I didn’t know existed, which matched what I was looking for and fit well.

This is the best thing you can hope to get from a retail experience— staff who really know their product and can guide you quickly and helpfully.

The store can get busy and given the nature of jeans people try a bunch of stuff on, so I would recommend coming here when you aren’t in a rush.

Update to the owner: could you clarify what exactly was creepy? I'm honestly curious.

Not assuming your customers are trying to steal your stuff would make the atmosphere a bit friendlier.

Some more details:
Found a hoodie I liked, and returned to try it once again before buying.

The guy at the shop would not allow me to take my backpack into the changing room, and not even to put in on the sofa next to the changing room. Instead he insisted I put it on the floor in the corner, next to a 2-inch ball of dust and hair.

Horrible service. Brought my jeans in for complementary hemming after the wear and wash before hemming recommendation. Was told they weren’t sure they’d be able to do it because the pants seemed dirty to him.
When asked about restitching thread that had come undone at the same time that clearly looked like a defect in the pant, I was quoted $40 for an extremely simple job. Really not the follow on service I was sold when I paid $300 for the pair.

Best denim repair I’ve ever had. Well with the cost and wait (~4weeks). Came back sturdier than they were new.

Response to Owner's comment: you missed the point. Telling me that you're going to keep my money before you keep my money doesn't absolve you of having a bad policy; it just means you're up front about your bad policy. I'm telling you you have a policy that isn't in line with consumer expectations, and I questioned its rationale. Yet here you are just being defensive, and not giving even the slightest hint why you have implemented such a policy.

I get that they state their return policy only allows for exchanges or store credit, but most of us aren't used to that policy from a retailer. My boo got me some stuff as a present, but the sizing was off. So I tried to exchange the product for a different size, but they didn't have it in stock.
That's when I found out about their return policy. I live in LA, so I thought maybe I could just drop the shirt off at their LA location to avoid shipping, but I wasn't allowed to do that. I had to send it back to their SF location.
Add to that the fact that they said they would have the shirt in stock around July, but I've been checking back for months now, and it still isn't in stock. So our $140 has been sitting un-utilized for half a year, now, and I have to just hope and dream that they will get the shirt I want back in stock.
Feels wrong, doesn't it? I get that shipping back might be on me, especially from a smaller retailer. But my money is being held hostage, and that's not right. Are they trying to guarantee that once we spend money with them, it stays with them? I don't get the rationale for not giving us our money back.
And guess what? I'm not shopping here again. They're one of the few Merz B. Schwanen stockists, so I would definitely have come back to shop with them if they hadn't pulled this stunt.
Change your policy, jabronis.
