Just finished a few nights here. I stayed in a one bedroom king suite… very well appointed / clean room. I loved the fireplace! The resort is just one (big) staircase to the mammoth village gondola which meant very easy access to the canyon lodge which I think is the best base camp for access to all the mountain. I’d recommend renting a locker at the Canyon Lodge so you can leave all your gear there and keep things simple (I did premier rental which included the locker and was worth it).

Loved this hotel! The location can’t be beat. Being able to walk to the gondola made the trip so easy.
A+ to the front desk staff who helped us after a very long drive, Willow was fantastic and made us feel right at home and followed up with us to make sure we were settled.
We stayed in the one bedroom and the room was really tight. Felt like they were trying to squeeze too big furniture into a space that couldn’t really fit it. Would have been hard to really settle in for more than a night or too

We had such an amazing stay ! The hotel was clean, spacious and very conveniently located. Complimentary parking and valet driving service was wan unexpected perk!
The hotel manager (didn’t catch his name, but he said he was from Austria) and staff member Thu went above and beyond to welcome our little girl on her first trip to mammoth. We will definitely be back for annual ski trips with our family and will stay here again and again !

Westin Monarche was definitely one of the best hotels we stayed in during a 2 week driving holiday in California and Nevada. Funnily enough it was actually the least expensive. We didn’t book in advance as we weren’t expecting to stay in Mammoth, however this ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. The hotel’s not brand new, but it is SO well-appointed. We really appreciated having a kitchen and a guest laundry as towards the end of our trip we were running low on clothing and getting sick of spending a fortune on breakfast. Just the option to boil a kettle and make a cup of tea was so good as everywhere else we stayed prior made that so difficult. Bed was very comfortable and there were lighting and power options everywhere in the room. My only complaint about the room was that the bathroom vanity was small and difficult to find room to put anything, but that was a minor inconvenience for such a great room. We used the bar and restaurant downstairs several times, all fantastic. Hotel and restaurant staff fantastic too. Parking was excellent and convenient. Not far to lots of restaurant options although there is a fairly steep hill or lots of stairs on the way back up. Would definitely recommend this hotel or stay again.

We booked a two bedroom suite at the Westin Monarche, we were very happy with the view of the mountain and the gondolas. Unfortunately the king bedroom’s heating was not working, and left us freezing.

Upon multiple complaints about heating, we were told ā€œyour room has large windows and a door to the balcony, so it is normal to have a colder than normal room. We have had multiple previous guests complain of the same issue because your room is too bigā€.

So you’re telling me that the premium I paid to have a larger suite with more space equivocally means I have less comfort in the middle of winter?! A winter that is always cold due to a snow season that your company/hotel profits from annually?! I need to suffer uncomfortable coldness because I PAID to have the comfort of a larger space?

I currently reside on the east coast where our temperatures regularly fall below freezing during the day and night in a home with floor to ceiling windows, and at NO POINT does my home get below 70 degrees, because my home was built to withstand these temperatures with proper insulated windows.

Your ā€œfancyā€ hotel room, that you charge an extravagant premium for cannot handle/withstand these cold temperatures?! What is the purpose of paying for a week’s worth of a room that will just freeze you out?

We had to evacuate because of the fires in Los Angeles and Tim at the front desk was incredibly helpful. He was very accommodating and we really appreciated it! It’s definitely the nicest hotel in Mammoth and you can’t beat the location. Would definitely come back.

consistently hit-and-miss service level has always been the issue at this luxury hotel w convenient location. With price increased 70% since a year ago, you would think the service could have also brought up a level.

Lady at the front desk, Wxllxx, when we checked-in was as cold as the winter ice, no smile and when we asked if any suite at higher floor available, (which was in our request column since booking 6 months ago), she didn’t even look at her system before she declined and said ā€œall the rooms are fullā€.

On the other hand, another lady Kelly was excellent, very friendly and made effort to check and even got a higher floor.

Cleaning also can be improved, the room floor was so dirty when we checked in, we had to mopped the floor ourselves 2X.

I stayed at this property recently, and while I appreciate the challenges of running a business in a ski town, my experience was well below expectations, especially for the price of $400 per night.

The Good: Breakfast was decent, and the staff seemed to be doing their best under tough conditions.

The Bad:
• Cleanliness: The restaurant was shockingly dirty, and the carpets in the rooms were so filthy my dog wouldn’t even lie on the floor. It’s clear the property hasn’t seen proper maintenance or renovation in years. Grease-covered cabinets, dented walls, and dingy furnishings are unacceptable for a resort claiming to be five-star.
• Food Quality: Dinner was subpar—frozen fries and calamari are not what I expect at this price point.
• Pet Policy Issues: While I support pet-friendly accommodations, there seemed to be no enforcement of rules regarding barking dogs, which disrupted the stay for other guests.

The Bigger Picture: It’s clear the staff are doing their best with limited resources, but it’s evident that corporate priorities lie elsewhere. Underpaying staff and failing to invest in renovations or proper cleaning reflects poorly on the resort.

Suggestions:
1. Renovate rooms and deep-clean all common areas immediately.
2. Improve food quality, especially at dinner.
3. Enforce pet policies to ensure all guests can enjoy their stay.
4. Reassess pricing—this experience was more in line with a budget hotel than a luxury

I received your message inviting me to return, and while I appreciate the outreach, I must say it feels ironic. After leaving an honest review of my experience, it seems the only remedy offered is a reactive gesture rather than addressing the core issues.

What many companies fail to understand is that earning a customer’s trust and loyalty requires significant effort and resources, but regaining a lost customer costs exponentially more. Unfortunately, this situation is no different.

You ask me to return, but after spending my hard-earned money on an experience that did not meet expectations, I find it difficult to consider without a meaningful gesture of accountability. Perhaps starting with an offer for complimentary nights would demonstrate your commitment to addressing my concerns. Then, we can explore the possibility of rebuilding trust.

Ultimately, resolving these issues is not my responsibility but yours. As someone once wisely said, ā€œLet those who create the problems be the ones to fix them.ā€ I hope you will take this feedback to heart and work toward better serving your future guests.
